Location Description:
The building is located on the corner of Horoz and Haci Ali Sokak in Galata – Beyoglu. It is very centrally located, within a 3 minute walk of the Galata Tower, a landmark monument of Istanbul. It is surrounded by more than 700 hundred years of history, some of it still visible – the Docce’s house (governer of the Genoese colony in Galata that existed before it was conquered by the Ottomans) and a tower and some of the city wall that used to surround the colony. Galata is also home to an annual fashion fair, (Istanbul’s best) jazz club Nardis, a catholic monastery, Mevlana’s lodge and museum, an Ashkenazi synagogue, Bankalar Caddesi and its imposing buildings (the Wall Street of the Ottoman empire) and numerous others cultural venues, cafes and restaurants. The area also has excellent transportation connections. The Metro’s Istiklal/Sishane stop, the Karakoy and Eminonu ferries and the tram going to the main bus station and the Ataturk airport, as well as numerous buses in all directions are all within walking distance.
II. Parameters The building is currently in a very good condition. It only needs a reinforcement of the foundations to comply with the earthquake regulations as well as refurbishment inside. The building is on an incline so that there is an extra basement level in its lower end, which has an independent entrance and results in two commercial spaces. There are two basement levels and five levels above ground.
